As the openings concerned were high up, a cherry picker was hired so that the work could be carried out with proper access. This makes it possible to work precisely around the hinge pins without setting up multiple bearing points against the façade.
Every hinge pin showing play was removed. The areas of wall that were no longer properly bonded were then stripped and cut back until sound enough masonry was reached. The area was cleaned before the repair in order to remove the dust and loose fragments that could compromise the new bedding.
The opened-up areas were built back up with a class R4 repair mortar, used both to repair the masonry and to bed the hinge pins. The aim was to give the fixings a solid substrate again while rebuilding the reveals around the window frames.
Once the mortar had cured and the surfaces had been made good, a white finish was applied to the repaired areas so that they matched the appearance of the existing surround. The repair therefore stays discreet while the shutters are once again held securely.
