The area measures roughly 5 m by 10 m. Before the pour, edge formwork was set up to define the slab precisely and hold the concrete at the levels specified.
Welded steel mesh was laid across the surface. In addition, fibres were added to the concrete during the pour to provide reinforcement distributed throughout the mix, in line with the choice made for this project site.
The concrete was delivered by pump so that it could be spread across the whole surface without repeated handling.
As the pour progressed, the concrete was screeded and levelled to hold the specified levels across the whole slab.
Once levelled and at the right point in the set, the surface was worked with a power float. This mechanical finish produces a fine, smooth concrete suited to a terrace and to a parking area, while making routine upkeep easier.
Joints were formed to break up the surface and better accommodate the natural movement of the concrete. The finished slab gives a continuous, clean area at the foot of the house.
